Introduction

Chitrokor By Rabindranath Tagore চিত্রকর

“Chitrokor,” which translates to “The Sketch Artist” in English, is a short story by Rabindranath Tagore, the renowned poet, novelist, and Nobel laureate in Literature. Originally written in Bengali, “Chitrokor” is one of Tagore’s many short stories that showcase his mastery of storytelling and exploration of human emotions and relationships.

The story revolves around the protagonist, an artist named Amulya, who possesses a remarkable talent for capturing the essence of his subjects through his sketches. Amulya’s artistic ability is admired by many, including his friend Kamal, who encourages him to pursue his passion despite societal expectations.

As Amulya delves deeper into his art, he becomes increasingly absorbed in his creative process, often losing himself in the world of his sketches. However, his obsession with his art begins to take a toll on his relationships, particularly with his wife, Manjula, who feels neglected and unappreciated.
